from the authors at about.com...

Free Full Length Movies - The Top Ten Websites

By , About.com Guide

Free, full length movies are abundant on the Web; that is, if you know where to look. Lots of websites promise free films, but I've sorted through it all to show you the top ten very best sites that will deliver great video right to your desktop.

1. Hulu

free full length movies at hulu
Hulu is the first place I go online when I want to find quality multimedia. They've got a good selection of movies here, and they are all easy to find with good organization.

2. Surf The Channel

surf the channel free full length movies
Surf The Channel has literally hundreds of movies; keep in mind that since all these movies are links to other sites, not all of the movies will work. However, out of five movies I randomly picked to test this site, all of them worked with no problems at all.

3. IMDB

free full length movies at IMDB
IMDB, also known as the Internet Movie Database, has added free full length movies and TV shows to its already large and informative site. As of this writing (August 2011), there were only about one hundred movies available; however, they are all hosted on the site and in good quality.

4. Joost

free full length movies at Joost
Joost makes it very easy for you to view movies on the Web - just click to their film section and you're pretty much all set. Nicely organized by category and each movie is in very high quality.

5. Babelgum

free full length movies at babelgum
Babelgum has plenty of great movies; however, you're going to have to do a little bit of sleuthing in order to find them. Your best bet? Go straight to the Channels page and look to the right - you'll see a whole list of really interesting subjects that you can then click on and find movies you might be interested in.

6. Google Video

free full length movies at google video
Movies at Google Video can be found simply by going to the Advanced Search and changing the drop-down "Duration" menu to "longer than twenty minutes"; you can further refine your search parameters to find a particular movie you are interested in.

7. Freetube

free full length movies at freetube
Freetube is quite different from the rest of the sites profiled in this list. Instead of individual movies, Freetube offers streaming channels from which you can watch a free full length movie: it's just not certain what you're going to get! Channels offered are The Movie Channel, Free Classics, the Mystery Channel, and quite a few more. All movies are in reasonably good quality; my only beef is that there should be some kind of viewing schedule available.

8. OVGuide

ovguide
OVGuide is a multimedia search engine that scours the Web for high-quality videos, movies, TV shows, and films. OVGuide connects to more than 3000 movie and video sites, organizing content into an easy to use multimedia directory.

9. Public Domain Torrents

10. Internet Archive: Moving Image Archive

free full length movies at the internet archive
The Internet Archive is a truly fascinating repository of all sorts of really high quality movies; you can find anything from historical films to open source movies here.

Search for Torrents within uTorrent

utorrent Torrent Search Introduction

µTorrent has a built in torrent search engine that will search individual torrent sites through your browser.  The search sites included in this engine at default will not yield the results that most users want.
This guide will give you information on how to use the µTorrent search engine and how to add torrent search sites to the µTorrent search engine to get the torrent search results you want.

Using utorrent Torrent Search

The uTorrent torrent search is in the upper right hand corner of µTorrent.

µTorrent-torrent-search-location
utorrent-torrent-search-box-closeup

If you are not seeing the above screen, then press Options and click on Show Category List.

utorrent-help-search-show-category-list
You will then see one of the two images below.  Click on Torrents or the downward arrow to show torrents and the search box as in the first image above.
utorrent-category-list-expanded-torrents                  utorrent-help-category-list-minimized-torrents
Do not click on Find Content as that will give a Bing search.
To conduct a search enter the search terms in the search box and press the magnifying glass image next to the box, or press Enter on your computer.  If you enter a search term and press the downward arrrow next to the magnifying glass, you will be able to choose the site to search from and when you do the search will begin.
The usual search operators will generally work here, but it does depend on whether the site being searched supports the operators.  For example, "linux mint" will return results where those two words are next to each other, linux -mint will return results with the word linux and without the word linux.
Three of the four search sites included at default will produce few results and the fourth, Google, will produce too many.  For this torrent search to be effective, torrent search sites will need to be added to the search provider listings.

Adding Torrent Search Sites to µtorrent Torrent Search

To add torrent search sites to µTorrent's torrent search the µTorrent preferences must be accessed.  The search providers may be accessed through Options>Preferences>Advanced>UI Extras, but the easiest access is to choose Manage Search Providers through the drop down menu next to the search box.  This will take you directly to the section to add or delete search providers.

access-manage-search-providers-utorrent
You will then see the below listing.
utorrent-default-search-sites-at-UI-settings

My suggestion is to delete all of those and copy and paste the below torrent search sites in.  When finished, press OK on the Preferences screen.  Where available, I have used https links.

The sites listed below are those referenced at Searching For Torrents (Torrent Search Sites) and are suggested for use as they have good features to weed out fakes.  Using a popular site listed there will return the results you want in almost every search.
Reading the Searching For Torrents article will help you in using these sites effectively.  µTorrent will get you to the site, but to use the site effectively to get the clean, real and well seeded torrent that you want, you need to use the features of the torrent search site that you are using.

IsoHunt|https://isohunt.com/torrents.php?ext=&op=and&ihq=
PirateBay|https://thepiratebay.org/search/
Torrentz|https://www.torrentz.com/search?q=
KAT|http://www.kat.ph/usearch/
btjunkie|http://btjunkie.org/search?q=
BitSnoop|http://bitsnoop.com/search/all/
Vertor|http://www.vertor.com/index.php?mod=search&search=&words=
Podtropolis|http://www.podtropolis.com/torrents-search.php?search=
Coda.fm|http://coda.fm/albums/search?query=
Take.fm|http://take.fm/movies/search?query=

EZTV, which is on the list at Searching for Torrents, can not be added to µTorrent's search as far as I can tell.  There is a free App called Zulu TV which works exclusively with EZTV.
After you have done this, you can check back at the search box to see if all the torrent search sites have been added in.  Your search provider listing should then look as in the image below.

utorrent-updated-listing-torrent-search-providers

To add your own torrent search site, you go to the site, do a search, delete the search term from the address bar,  then copy the address bar and then add the site name in front and a Pipe  (| = Shift+\ ) between the site name and address.
For example at btjunkie, I searched debian and got
http://btjunkie.org/search?q=debian  so what I copied is http://btjunkie.org/search?q=
I then added the site name and | - so now it is btjunkie|http://btjunkie.org/search?q=
Which is what you would copy and paste to show btjunkie in the search box.

µtorrent Torrent Search Conclusion

Hopefully this guide has clearly explained how to use the  µTorrent torrent search feature to find a clean, real and well seeded torrent of the content you are looking for.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please post in the comments below or in our Forum.

Use Google to search for free MP3 recordings

The web is really a wonderful playground to find and share information with people all over the world.  A recent article I found talked about using search strings in Google to find free MP3 recordings. This will work with any artist or subject.

"index of" + intitle:mp3 + beethoven

Looking for free music files on the Web is quite simple if you know how to frame your search queries. The information in this article is intended for public domain, legally obtainable content.
There's an easy way to find free MP3 files with Google; actually, there's quite a few easy ways. Here's one (this particular method via Tech-Recipes):

-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" mp3

Okay, so let's break this down. You are attempting to find directories, so you don't want a a Web page (hence the minus sign in front of both the htm and html extensions). You're looking for the root directory, so that's where the "index of" in the title (intitle) comes in. And that mp3 file designation? You can change that to any file you are wanting to look for: wma, pdf, etc.
Now, how about looking for specific artists? Easy:

-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "beethoven"

Make sure you put the artist's name in quotes at the end of the search string. Now, there's another way to do this that might be a little bit easier; you're just changing the order of your search query around.

intitle:index.of + mp3 + "beethoven" -html -htm -txt

Basically, you're doing the same thing that you did in the first search string. You can narrow it down even further if you want to:

"index of" + intitle:mp3 + beethoven

All you're doing here is looking for directories with MP3 in the title and Beethoven.
